The Future Leaders program Module 4: Skills, Training, and Education presented an enriching day filled with diverse learning experiences. Their journey commenced with a visit to the Australian Institute of Marine Science (AIMS), where they toured SeaSim and ReefWorks. This immersive experience provided invaluable insights into marine research and conservation efforts.
Following this, they visited the Clontarf Academy School at Kirwan State High School, where they learned about the impactful initiatives aimed at improving the education and life prospects of young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander men.
Following their lunch at Canto Restaurant at JCU, the day continued with a series of enriching experiences within James Cook University's campus. They embarked on an exploration of JCU's Marine and Aquaculture Research Facility (MARF), operated by world-leading researchers and scientists. This immersive tour provided invaluable insights into the advancements in sustainable fishing and aquaculture industries, emphasizing the importance of managing marine resources effectively. Their journey then led them to the Cyclone Testing Station, where they gained insights into the station's vital role in minimizing loss and suffering caused by cyclones and high wind events.
Moreover, whilst at James Cook University they delved into the significance of international students, industry support, and global partnerships for regional success.
The day concluded with networking at Townsville Enterprise’s Member Mixer, held at the impressive new Engineering Building, fostering connections and having some much needed down time!
And that's a wrap! As we reach the halfway point of the program, we take a moment to reflect on the immense pride we feel for our cohort. Witnessing their growth, dedication, and achievements has been truly inspiring.
