Unlock the North Announcements

Bipartisan Support for CopperString Confirmed

The announcement this week that Opposition Leader David Crisafulli has committed to delivering the CopperString project confirms bipartisan support from both major parties. CopperString, a decade-long advocacy effort, stands as one of North Queensland’s most transformative projects. It represents one of the largest public sector investments in new energy and mining in Queensland and has already catalysed billions of dollars in private investment.

CopperString is set to rejuvenate communities along the Northwest Corridor, as clean economy businesses are turning to the North to help drive the national transition to net zero. The momentum continues, with significant infrastructure, end-to-end manufacturing hubs, and new industries being planned for Townsville and North Queensland.

Critical Road Infrastructure Gains LNP Support

This week, the LNP announced a $30 million commitment to the Townsville University Hospital Road Upgrade Project, a priority noted in our Unlock the North document. This funding will help unlock the full potential of the TropiQ precinct, where peak demand is already straining capacity and further growth is projected to be constrained by 2027. The investment will not only improve emergency vehicle access but also aid in future proofing the precinct to support regional growth.

We welcome this positive step and look forward to additional commitments towards the full development of the TropiQ precinct.
