Acknowledging the region’s volunteers and the spirit of volunteerism broadly, Townsville Enterprise is celebrating their 60+ tourism volunteers as part of International Volunteers Day.
Townsville Enterprise CEO, Claudia Brumme-Smith said our tourism volunteers are the heart of Townsville Enterprise.
“Our tourism volunteers are the heart of our organisation and have been part of the organisation for more than 33 years, this year welcoming their one millionth visitor to our region,” Ms Brumme-Smith said.
“Each year, we welcome over 21,000 visitors to our Visitor Information Centre in Flinders Square. But outside of this, our tourism volunteers attend Cruise ship welcomes, new flight launches and most of the major events to greet visitors and provide them with information about our region.”
“Collectively, our tourism volunteers have given over 448 years of service to Townsville Enterprise and the region and worked over 2,300 hours per year in the Visitor Information Centre and at events. We cannot thank them enough for what they do.”
Townsville Tourism Volunteer, and recent winner of the Outstanding Contribution by a Volunteer Award at the 2024 North Queensland Tourism and Events Awards, Robyn Edwards said that volunteering was a rewarding experience.
“I’ve been volunteering for over five years, and I can honestly say that each shift offers new experiences, and meeting people from around the country and the world is definitely a highlight.”
“Beyond the day-to-day roles of volunteering at the Information Centre, being with likeminded people who have the same passion for our region as I do, makes it all so rewarding.”
