NTI Townsville 500 set to deliver ultimate entertainment weekend in 2025

2nd April 2025

North Queensland’s biggest annual sporting event is about to get even bigger in 2025.

This year’s 17th edition of Supercars racing at the NTI Townsville 500 will feature an action-packed lineup of motorsport, extreme sports, and live entertainment set to thrill fans over three massive days.

In a world first for motorsport, Professional Bull Riders (PBR) Australia will join the NTI Townsville 500, bringing one of the world's premier entertainment brands to fans in North Queensland.

PBR has built a global reputation for delivering heart-stopping action, and the Friday night showdown in Townsville will feature an Australia vs New Zealand origin series where the best riders
from either country will compete for the top prize in a head-to-head battle. Any NTI Townsville 500 ticket holder for Friday will be able to attend. The bull ring will be set up behind the Supercars
paddock area of the track precinct.

Fast, loud motorsport action won’t be limited to the track in Townsville this year, with a spectacular lineup of off-track entertainment, including burnouts, drifting, car builds, dyno shows and an automotive expo alley.
It’s all part of the Summernats Goes Troppo showcase of wild, world-class automotive entertainment.

The Summernats Pro Burnout Series Skid Pad sees more than 20 burnout beasts and drift cars smoking it up in adrenaline-fueled shows each day with burnout stars like Leteisha Chun Tie and drifter Mercurial Mouse  headlining the tyre shredding action.

MotorEx Alley brings Australia’s biggest automotive expo from Melbourne to North Queensland, including the Horsepower Hero dyno show, panel discussions, signing sessions, and the exhilarating Flying Spanners live engine build competition.

There’s also a selection of amazing car builds including Cam Waters MotorEx multi-award winner elite XB Falcon and Summernats Grand Champion Joe Bauer’s immaculate Dodge 3000hp 1968 Dodge Charger.
The iconic Street Machine magazine will present a high-profile tough car show and shine featuring some of Australia’s toughest street cars.

Summernats Goes Troppo is the place to be for lovers of crazy cars and insane horsepower. Adding to the spectacle, the Australian Defence Force will be on-site with an immersive interactive experience for fans to get up  close to, featuring an array or armoured vehicles including a tank, the Australian Light Armoured Vehicle, Bushmaster Protected Mobility Vehicles, weapons displays, unit capability displays and aviation flyovers.
Fans will also be treated to exclusive ADF Army musical performances from Townsville’s own 1st Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment Band and 3rd Battalion Royal Australian Regiment Pipes and Drums.

Further enhancing the festival atmosphere, additional activities will include:

  • Local muscle car and motorsport club displays
  • Freestyle motocross (FMX) stunt shows
  • Sponsor activations from brands like Monster Energy, Toyota, NTI, and Hino
  • Destination bars, including the famous Townsville Beach Bar

“We are taking the NTI Townsville 500 to the next level in 2025, delivering a festival of entertainment that will appeal to motorsport fans, thrill-seekers, and families alike,” Howard said.
“Securing PBR Australia is a game-changer, bringing one of the world’s premier entertainment brands to Townsville.

“Alongside the return of Street Machine, MotorEx, and Summernats’ incredible off-track shows, this event will be a must-see on the Supercars calendar.”

Andrew Powell MP, Queensland’s Minister for Environment and Tourism, and Minister for Science and Innovation said:

"The NTI Townsville 500 continues to shift gears, bringing new and exciting elements to the event each year.

“This evolution turbocharges the entertainment value and reinforces Townsville's reputation as a premier destination for world-class events. It attracts visitors from across the globe and is always a fantastic boost to our local tourism industry, as the whole region comes alive over its three days.

“We look forward to welcoming everyone to North Queensland for an unforgettable weekend of motorsport, extreme sports, and live entertainment."

Townsville Acting Mayor, Ann-Maree Greaney said she was thrilled to welcome Supercars back to Townsville for a fun-fuelled weekend like no other.

“With more than 126,000 supporters descending on Reid Park last year I think it’s safe to say Townsville loves the Supercars, so I can’t wait to see the event back here and even better in 2025,” Cr Greaney said.

“Supercars are known for bringing in a crowd when it comes to both on and off the track entertainment so to hear the PBR are joining the lineup this year is truly awesome.

“As the events capital of the north I know our community are revved up to welcome Supercars back to Reid Park to celebrate their 17th year here in Townsville.”

Townsville Enterprise CEO Claudia Brumme-Smith:

"North Queensland is in for an action-packed event weekend with live sport and entertainment not only from the Supercars, but also including professional bull-riding and a Cowboys double-header event at Queensland Country Bank Stadium."

"The Supercars event is expected to inject close to $53 million into the Townsville North Queensland community, bringing over 33,000 visitors into the city over three-days."

Glen Young, PBR Australia General Manager said: “At the Townsville NTI 500, we're witnessing a groundbreaking fusion of speed and strength, where the thrill of professional bull riding meets the high-octane world of Supercars.

“For the first time ever, this world-first event not only celebrates the power and precision of motorsport but also the raw adrenaline of bull riding.

“The inaugural Australia versus New Zealand Bull Riding Teams competition adds a unique, competitive edge, uniting two thrilling worlds in a celebration of skill, courage, and rivalry.

More than two million fans have walked through the gates of the Townsville event since Supercars debuted at Reid Park in 2009.

The Repco Supercars Championship will, for the first time, race on all three days of the event, with a 100km sprint on Friday followed by 200km races on Saturday and Sunday.

Support categories locked in for the 2025 NTI Townsville 500 include the Dunlop Super2 Series, Toyota Gazoo Racing Australia GR Cup, Porsche Sprint Challenge Australia, and V8 SuperUtes.

The NTI Townsville 500 will take place over three days from 11-13 July 2025. Tickets for general admission, grandstands, and corporate hospitality are now on sale through Supercars.com.
