The Townsville Enterprise Visitor Information Centre in Flinders Street, has this week proudly welcomed its one-millionth visitor, marking a significant milestone in the region's tourism journey.
With Townsville Enterprise celebrating its 33rd birthday this month, the organisation’s vibrant team of around 60 dedicated volunteers has been the welcoming face of the city for over three decades, providing invaluable guidance and hospitality to travellers from interstate and around the globe.
With over 400 years of volunteering experience combined, these volunteers have contributed over 250,000 volunteering hours to support the region's tourism industry. Whether greeting visitors in the centre itself, at cruise ship arrivals, at a pop-up visitor service at the Sealink Terminal, or for major events, these passionate locals are the first point of contact for visitors eager to experience all that Townsville North Queensland has to offer.
CEO of Townsville Enterprise, Claudia Brumme-Smith, praised the dedication of the volunteers.
"Our volunteers are truly the welcoming smiling faces for Townsville North Queensland’s tourism industry. Their tireless commitment and genuine love for this region has helped shape unforgettable memories for more than one million visitors,” said Ms Brumme-Smith.
“Some of our volunteers have been volunteering for several decades and combined, our 60 volunteers represent more than 400 years of experience in making travel recommendations and supporting tourists in having an exceptional holiday experience.”
“We want to thank all our volunteers for their dedication and service to the industry and we acknowledge the support from Townsville City Council and our members who support our Visitor Information Centre allowing them to continue to deliver the exceptional service it does.”
One of the long-serving volunteers Karen Glazebrook, who has been a tourism ambassador for over 11 years, shared their joy in reaching this milestone.
"It’s been an amazing journey. I’ve seen so much growth and change in the region, but what remains constant is the joy of meeting new people and sharing what makes Townsville special.”
“Volunteering at the Visitor Information Centre and meeting interstate and global travellers every day is a lovely reminder of how special our home really is. Whether it’s the rainforest, Magnetic Island, the outback, or attractions here in the city – there really is so much on offer. The visitors we meet are always in awe of this place we call home," said Ms Glazebrook.
As the Townsville Visitor Information Centre continues to provide exceptional service to locals and visitors alike, its volunteers remain a vital part of the tourism fabric, helping to ensure every visitor leaves with unforgettable memories.
