The National Rugby League (NRL) today announced the 2024 calendar will officially kick off with the 2024 NRL Harvey Norman All Stars, at Townsville’s Queensland Country Bank Stadium on Friday, February 16.
The annual fixture, between the Indigenous and MÄori male and female teams, will form part of a jam-packed events calendar for 2024.
Townsville Enterprise Director Visitor Economy and Marketing Lisa Woolfe said the event was a huge win for the city, in what is already one of the biggest events calendars the region has even seen.
“Townsville North Queensland has shown its ability in delivering major national events, and this will be no different as we anticipate the event to inject millions to the local economy and supported widely by the avid rugby league community that live in the North,” Ms Woolfe said.
“When Queensland Country Bank Stadium hosted this event in 2021, we saw a crowd of over 20,000, made up of local and visitors from across the State.”
“Having recently conducted community sentiment research on events, we know there is a real hunger for more nationally recognised events to put Townville on the map as an events destination, and this event certainly fits that criteria.”
“This event will officially launch the 2024 events calendar for Townsville North Queensland, one of the biggest calendars our region has ever seen – with this national sports event quickly followed by American superstar P!nk who will take the stage at Queensland Country Bank Stadium the following month in March.”
The Townsville region is quickly becoming known as the Events capital of the North and has ambitions to grow and elevate the calendar into the future.
Acting Mayor of Townsville City Council Cr Mark Molachino says national sporting events like these are a real driver for community pride.
“Townsville City Council is pleased to see events of this caliber turning to our region as their event host destination – we have a passionate rugby league community here in the North, some of the best stadium facilities in the country,” Cr Molachino said.
“QUOTE.”
The All Stars matches will be broadcast live on the Nine Network, Fox League, Kayo Sports, Sky Sport New Zealand and Watch NRL.
The 2024 NRL Harvey Norman All Stars will feature the women’s and men’s Indigenous and MÄori teams. Tickets will be on sale later this year. The 2024 Harvey Norman All Stars is proudly supported by the Queensland Government, via Tourism and Events Queensland, along with Stadiums Queensland.
